Sacred Heart University’s WSHU Broadcast Center & Public Safety building in Fairfield, CT is a striking three-story, ~21,000 ft² state-of-the-art facility designed by SGA Architects to serve dual institutional missions: housing WSHU’s award-winning public radio studios and SHU’s Public Safety headquarters. Nestled into a steep hillside, the building steps down gracefully with grade-level access on each floor and a glazed lobby and roof deck that foster transparency and campus connectivity. Inside, acoustically tuned radio studios and editing suites sit alongside 24/7 emergency dispatch and command center, sharing a backbone of robust tech infrastructure, backup power, and seamless integration. More than mere facilities, this building represents a powerful synergy of community service, providing contemporary news production capabilities to nearly 300,000 weekly listeners while ensuring student safety and emergency resilience. The Center underscores SHU’s dedication to safe, informed, and engaged campus life, anchoring both broadcast excellence and public trust in a single cohesive design
