Open-Joint Cladding

Open-joint cladding is a rainscreen solution consisting of cladding beams, fins, or planks installed with intentional gaps between each member. This design creates a fresh, modern aesthetic that is currently trending among architects and designers to create unique building facades. These types of cladding solutions add texture and depth to walls, enhancing the structure’s visual appeal.

Aluminum is widely used for open-joint cladding due to its durability, corrosion resistance, and lightweight nature. It is strong yet easy to handle and install, offering design flexibility with various finishes. Additionally, aluminum is a sustainable choice as it is recyclable and requires minimal maintenance, making it both environmentally friendly and cost-effective in the long run.

In contrast to closed joint cladding, the WRB (Weather Resistant Barrier) in open joint cladding is exposed and more susceptible to damage from UV light, wind, and debris. Thus, using a durable, UV-stable WRB is essential. The open joints enable effective water drainage and rear ventilation, making this a feasible and reliable rainscreen solution.

Link & Lockâ„¢ features a hidden fastener, two-piece aluminum extrusion, ideal for achieving a seamless and refined look. Privacy Beam, on the other hand, is a 1-piece, easy-to-install extrusion that provides a straightforward, modern aesthetic. Both architectural battens are capable of creating unique and contemporary facades, catering to different design preferences and installation needs.

High-Performance Finishes

All of our open joint cladding systems are powder-coated with AAMA 2604/2605 certified powder. This includes finishes that replicate the aesthetics of natural stone, brick, wood, terracotta, and naturally aged metals.

These high-performance finishes ensure outstanding durability and toughness even as they are exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods of time. We take pride in using pre-treatment chemicals that meet strict standards and contain no chromates, cyanides, phosphates, or other EPA/OSHA-listed metals.
