About This Course

This CEU will introduce you to the carbon footprint concept and how materials selections can impact it. We’ll go over the Aluminum life cycle and understand how using aluminum with recycled content can significantly reduce a project’s carbon footprint. We’ll compare aluminum siding with other popular options such as vinyl. Wood and fiber cement. We’ll explore the various recycling centers available in the US and where you can recycle various types of construction products. We’ll talk about the benefits of Passive House - including how it can help minimize environmental impact, increase energy efficiency, and help projects reduce carbon emissions. We’ll also address the concepts of Circular Economy and the AIA 2030 Commitment and how architects’ actions can impact this. Lastly, we will share some case studies from various residential and commercial projects.

In this CEU Course, we will introduce you to extruded aluminum cladding – what it is and its various internal and external applications, talk about the materials and processes required to make powder coated aluminum cladding - including how it can help minimize environmental impact, increase energy efficiency, and help projects earn LEED credits.

We’ll address health and safety with respect to the manufacturing, powder coating and installation of aluminum cladding, share how wood finished aluminum cladding can enhance buildings and make them more inclusive and healthy environments. We will also share some case studies from various residential and commercial projects.

We'll introduce you to different energy Codes and Passive House design approaches.   Discuss the fundamentals of High-performance facade anchor and the fundamentals of the attachment system. In this course, we will discuss the nine foundations of a healthy building, two high-impact attributes health building materials can address and introduce the top building and materials assessment tools including LEED, BREEAM, and WELL. By discussing healthy materials and the foundations for healthy buildings, this course will educate participants on the importance of selecting healthy and sustainable materials for their projects and how these impacts both the environment as well as the building occupants, for today and the future.
