Design and Function
Corner girts are horizontal and connect at corner conditions to tie back into the primary girt framework. Each girt includes an on-site adjustment to match corner angles.
Key attributes of corner girts :
- Horizontal alignment for consistent attachment points.
- Integration with standard girts via girt connectors.
- Adjustable lengths to bridge gaps between framing members.
- Compatibility with both standard and edge corner girt configurations.
Installation Parameters
Clips are positioned along corner framing members and aligned with the nearest stud, typically 16 inches on center, though adjustments may be required for seismic restraints, strapping, or non-standard framing conditions. Corner girts are generally supplied in six-foot lengths, allowing for three-foot coverage on either side of the corner to connect with adjacent girts.
At the base of the wall, the corner girt aligns with the elevation of the starter strip and quick screen clips, providing the correct height for cladding installation. Edge corner girt options are available when lower attachment surfaces are required.
Inside Corner Application
Inside corner installation follows the same methodology: ensure clips attach to solid framing, tie in corner girts, and bridge as necessary to provide adequate backing for finishes.
System Readiness
With corner girts installed and insulation in place, the wall assembly is prepared for cladding. The framework ensures:
- Structural integrity at corner conditions
- Consistent attachment surfaces for trim and panels
- Protection of insulation and substrates from water infiltration
