Product Update – Enhanced Installation Options With #10 Fasteners

Longboard Architectural Products is excited to announce key updates to our fastening specifications, set to significantly strengthen installations and expand the capabilities of our product offerings. Starting October 15th, 2024, Longboard will transition to #10 fasteners across all of our Tongue & Groove (T&G) product lines, enhancing performance and enabling the attachment of select products to OSB and plywood sheathing.

The cornerstone of this update is the transition from #8 to #10 fasteners, affecting all new projects involving Longboard’s T&G Planks and T&G Planks – Textured. This change reflects our dedication to our core values of ‘There Is Always a Better Way’ and ‘Simplicity’ by offering improved strength and holding capacity across all closed-joint systems. The transition to #10 fasteners will be implemented on October 8th, 2024, bringing enhanced strength, simplified specifications, and expanded installation capabilities to our product lines.

Enhanced Attachment to OSB/Plywood for Select Products

A significant benefit of transitioning to #10 fasteners is the new capability to install Longboard’s T&G Planks and T&G Planks – Textured onto 7/16″ OSB and plywood substrates. This expanded installation option is made possible solely by the switch to #10 fasteners, which provide the necessary strength and holding capacity to secure these products to these common substrate types.

For all Tongue & Groove families installations on OSB/Plywood, the following requirements apply:

  • Substrate Type: 7/16″ OSB/Plywood
  • Substrate Requirements: APA-rated sheathing or better
  • Anchor Description: #10 Pan Head Wood Screw
  • Minimum Screw Length: 1 inch
  • Minimum Embedment: 7/16 inch
  • Minimum Edge Distance: 1 inch

To support these changes, we will be releasing updated technical documentation featuring new fastener span tables & fastening specifications for OSB and plywood installations of T&G Planks. These updates will provide clear guidance on screw spacing and wind load considerations, ensuring that all installations meet stringent safety and performance standards.

Transition for Ongoing Projects

We understand that many projects are already underway. Projects that have already started using #8 fasteners or have materials on-site can proceed without changes. However, we recommend the transition to #10 fasteners for future projects to fully capitalize on these improvements.

These updates reflect Longboard’s ongoing commitment to delivering architectural products that set new standards for quality, durability, and ease of installation. We believe these enhancements will provide increased flexibility to our customers and partners in the construction and design industries.
